Event-driven investing after the death of merger arbitrage

Monday 27 October 2025 | 18:30 - 20:30 | Social, Special Interest Group Led

This event has been organised by CFA UK's Value Investing Special Interest Group.

Merger arbitrage has long been a cornerstone of event-driven investing—yet in today’s market, its reliability and profitability have come under intense scrutiny. In this timely and insightful session, we explore the mechanics of merger arbitrage, unpack the factors that have diminished its effectiveness, and examine real-world examples of deals gone wrong.

But the story doesn’t end there. While traditional merger arb may be in decline, other corporate events from activist campaigns to distressed restructuring, continue to offer fertile ground for sophisticated investors. Join us to uncover which pockets of opportunity remain viable, and how to navigate the evolving landscape of event-driven strategies.

Set in an informal pub environment, this event offers a relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy a drink, connect with fellow investment professionals, and engage in meaningful conversations—all while hearing from a compelling speaker on one of the most dynamic areas of investing today.
